What is Eyelid Surgery or Blepharoplasty?

Eyelid surgery is also called as Blepharoplasty. Eyelid surgery is performed for either cosmetic reasons or for functional reasons.

Eyelid surgery is a surgical procedure, in which excessive skin, excessive fat & muscles are removed from upper or lower or both upper and lower eyelids. Blepharoplasty is not for removal of dark circles under the eyes and facial wrinkles. As said earlier it is only for removal of excessive fat/muscles.

Eyelid surgery may take 2 to 3 hours to complete based on the requirements. It is performed through external incisions made along the natural skin lines of the eyelids. Initial swelling may be observed for in many cases after the surgery.
