Unlike dermabrasion and laser resurfacing, microdermabrasion is less invasive and more affordable than other such methods.  People prefer it since it is non-invasive, simple, and painless procedure.  It is done to revitalize the skin, to fade wrinkles and fine lines, to reduce fine lines, stretch marks and many other skin irregularities. Let’s find more about microdermabrasion and how is it performed.

Microdermabrasion, a Safer Mean to Treat Skin Irregularities

This procedure is a safer mean to treat many skin flaws.  It is a simply skin resurfacing treatment in which the top skin layer is gently abraded. When the skin layer is removed, a fresh, healthy and younger looking skin layer takes the place of the removed one.  The procedure involves micro aluminum oxide crystals or diamond tipped wand that make the process gentle and effective.

Microderm virtually has no risks or side effects of serious nature. It is one of the least invasive skin resurfacing techniques.  In skin care arena, this procedure is among the latest techniques that are made available for a common person.  It is definitely a less expensive and yet effective alternative to many other cosmetic procedures that produce similar results when used to correct skin irregularities.

How is Microdermabrasion Performed

During the procedure, a special microdermabrasion machine is used to resurface the skin area.  The machine disperses abrasive crystals, which are normally aluminum oxide or baking soda.  The abrasive crystals are thrown from the machine onto the target area through a hand piece, which works on the top skin layer and abrades it.  While the crystals come out from the machine and do the required job, they are removed by an attached vacuum system.

Microderm actually ‘polishes’ the skin without building heat on the treated area.  It ensures a gentle and least abrasive skin resurfacing.  The whole procedure may complete in 30 to 60 minutes.

In order to get deeper or better results, more than one microderm procedure will be required that can be performed at two to three weeks’ intervals.  Usually, you would need six to twelve treating sessions to achieve the intended results.  If necessary, the surgeon would recommend a chemical peel treatment to improve the outcome.
