Living with scars can sometimes become embarrassing.  If the scars are at places that aren’t so noticeable, you won’t mind, but if the scars are on visible parts of the body and they are large, then you have to find ways to get rid of them.  Many ways are there to treat scars and punch grafting is one of them.  Let’s learn more about this form of scar treatment.

Punch Grafting and Scar Removal

Punch grafting and removing deep scars is an effective possibility and seems to be a good option especially when simpler treatments don’t respond.   Some people get deep acne scars, which is more common, that very negatively affect the face.  Most of the over the counter preparations don’t seem to work with such deep scars and then a punch grafting scar removal method has to be sought.  This procedure involves minor surgery that is done by special punch tools.

Though the scar pit can be concealed satisfactorily, some people don’t like to undergo this treatment since the grafted skin may not match the recipient skin color or texture.  Moreover, this scar corrective method isn’t considered effective for large areas of scars.

Punch grafting and removing deep scars can be more successful if followed by laser resurfacing treatment, which can be done one month after the grafting.

Punch Grafting Procedure

In this procedure, matching skin graft is taken from a different part of the body, usually from behind the ear, and is grafted on the target scar.  It is done under a local anesthesia.  The procedure of skin removal and grafting doesn’t take long.  Moreover, it would need about five to seven days for the wound to heal.

This procedure is simple; a small skin piece is removed by using a special tool, and placed on the scar.  It is actually pasted there using skin glue, stitches or other similar methods.

The procedure works well by fading the existing scar but it would leave its own scars that will not be so visible or noticeable. After the scar heals, the skin of the treated area will be smooth and even.  In case of need, another treatment of chemical peel or microdermabrasion has to be done to make the treated area smooth and even.  This treatment can be done about four to six weeks after healing of the graft.

Types of Punch Treatment

Three different types of this treatment are in use, which are punch elevation, punch grafts and punch excisions.  Each technique does the required job but they are done differently.

Deep Scars on the Face are Embarrassing

Deep scars can form on the face mostly from acne, which is the depressed acne scar.  More than one scar means the skin will appear uneven and it can certainly ruin our appearance.  Many people suffer from acne but sometimes acne removal leaves deep scars that too affect the appearance of a person.  Most of the simpler remedies don’t work with deep scars and you have to find an effective way to deal with such scars.

Sometimes people have to live with scars caused by chicken pox or due to any other reason.  In all such deep scarring cases, punch grafting seems to be a good option.  If you are suffering from deep scars, you should consult a dermatologist for the best advice and treatment that suits your condition.

Those readers, who have undergone a punch grafting treatment to remove deep scars, may post their personal experience for the benefit of those who want to undergo such a treatment.
